If you go North from here, i.e., facing the highway, take the trail going RIGHT, you will go towards Gravelly Point, where you can watch the planes take off and land. Further N is Arlington Cemetery.
If you go South from here, i.e., facing the highway, take the trail going LEFT, you will go towards Old Town Alexandria. Further S is Mount Vernon, but it's long and mostly uphill!
