Great small live music venue. The Double Door of Chicago. Approx 400-500 capacity, unobstructed sight lines, great PA and sound. VIP section is designed nicely. Staff is friendly.
What a great venue -- small and intimate, but large enough that you'll get the occasional last minute show from a big name. Be sure to get on their mailing list to get last minute concert updates.

Awesome venue for any live band. Get tickets before they sell out, especially for Thursday's popscene. Drink specials are legit, and the bartenders are surprisingly nice & friendly.
See a band at the Rickshaw and get the bar's nightly drink special, no matter how weird it sounds or how apologetic the bartenders are about it.

Founder Agostino Giuntoli left Tuscany, Italy in 1922 at the age of 19 and sailed to America. He spent five years working his way to San Francisco and found a job as janitor at the famed Palace Hotel.
Saw Owl City here....awesome! The venue is small and intimate, so reserving a table in the balcony means that you can sit down and watch your performance but still see and hear everything well.

My favorite large venue in San Fran. Park at the large parking lot nearby or take BART, don't try for street parking. Don't worry about where you're sitting, it's a great view from anywhere.
